Redfern, one of Anson's substantial men, was in town today and tells some facts that will sound to many people like a fake. A man named John Gulledge, of the county, went out one morning to cut wood and while passing a thicket by a branch, he heard a rustling in the leaves and bushes and stopped to see what it was. In about half a minute four wild turkeys came trotting out along a little path. Thinking he might accidentally kill one, Mr. Gulledge threw his axe at them with all his might and was more that surprised to see all four of them felled at one stroke. He supposed naturally that the handle had broken their necks, but not so, for he found upon examination that the blade of the axe had severed each head from the neck. It is not a very recent occurrence, but is said to be true all the same, or at least is believed in the community where it took place.
