"The oldest Mason" dies occasionally; "George Washington's nurse" dies with a 
good deal of frequency; but there is one person of age who is still alive who, 
it appears, enjoyed companionship with the Father of His Country and who could 
doubtless give us many interesting reminiscences of him if he would. The 
Wadesboro Messenger Intelligencer states that "Uncle John Williams," of color, 
who lives in Anson county, says that he knew George personally and 
was "present at his funeral." This does Uncle John Williams great credit, and 
makes of him at once a person of consequence.
