Wadesboro Messenger-Intelligencer:
We are very sorry to have to chronicle the severe loss sustained last Saturday by 
Mr. M. A. Polk in the destruction of his residence by fire.  Mr Polk lives seven 
miles from Wadesboro on the Polkton road, and the burned dwelling was one of she 
[sic.] best country residences in the county.  The fire originated in the ceiling up

stairs, and was caused by a defect in the chimney.
