The Landmark (Statesville, N.C.)

April 24,1892
The Wadesboro Messenger-Intelligencer reports that Mr. S. H. MCLENDON of 
Ansonville, Anson County "happened to" a peculiar accident which came near 
resulting in his death. He was standing in his yard when a tree near him was 
struck by lightning, a flying chip from which struck him on the head knocking 
him senseless. It was thought for some time that he was dead, but he finally 
regained consciousness and at last account, he was out of danger.
