June 29 1893 In Gullege township, Anson County on the 21st the 17-year-old son of JOHN JONES was struck and killed by lightning. The Wadesboro Messenger says the boy and his father were in the field shocking oats at the time and were only a short distance apart. JONES was slightly shocked. *** Oct. 5, 1893 While helping to unload a box of bacon, Mr. J. L. POLK of Anson County, lost his balance and fell on one of the standards of the wagon, receiving injuries from which he died after several days of painful suffering. *** 29 June 1893 LEMUEL TYSON, an eccentric citizen of Anson County died recently at the age of 95. The Wadesboro Messenger says he was the oldest citizen in the county and until the last two or three years was able to work and did work, but lived the life of a recluse. It is said that never in his life would he take a dose of "doctor's medicine" but always prescribed for himself. His principal medicine when he was ailing was bacon, gravy and vinegar. *** 8 Sept. 1882 Beware of circus lemonade. The Charlotte Journal says Mr. H.G. FLADGER, a prominent cotton buyer of Lilesville, Anson County died suddenly last Saturday night at the resident of JUDGE BENNETT in Wadesboro. He was in the latter town to see the circus and seemed to be in good health, but late in the evening he was found in a helpless condition in a field near JUDGE BENNETT'S. Death was the result of a cramp colic, caused it is said, by drinking red circus lemonade. *** 12 Jan. 1883 In Anson County last Saturday a son of Mr. JOHN ROBINSON aged 9 years, was caught between the band wheel and a beam of his father's gin and was crushed to death. *** 13 March 1885 J.T. LOWERY of Long Pine, Anson County died on the 2nd from an overdose of Morphine, which he had taken to relieve intense pain. As the Greensboro Workman fittingly remarks: "It relieved him." *** Feb. 20, 1880 A buggy in which Mrs. DIGGS of Anson was riding careened, and she was thrown out and instantly killed.
