Griggs Dies at Morven Home Well Known Citizen Succumbed to Heart Attack Sunday Night Mr. Elisha L. Griggs passed away at his Morven home Sunday night at 9:15 o'clock. The funeral service was held in New Hope Methodist Church Monday afternoon, conducted by his pastor, Rev. J.S. Folger, assisted by Rev. C.E. Stevens and Rev. J.P.H. McNatt of Morven, and the body was laid to rest in the church graveyard beneath a beautiful covering of floral designs. The active pall bearers were Messrs. Benjamin Robinson, J.E. Eddins, T.L. Niven, M.T. Ratliffe, Monroe Ballard and Marcus L. Ham Jr. The honorary pall bearers were Messrs. A.A. Martin, T.V. Hardison, W.E. Pratt, F.P. Pratt, J.F. Thomas, Dr. B.J. McGoogan, J.L. Little, M.L. Ham, Sr., B.M. Melton, J.P. Boyd, A.A. Hall, J.J. Kibler, C.D. Thomas, R.P. Little, V.L. Wall, Z.V. Hartsell, Lester and Cliff Ratliffe, T.C. Cox, C.H. Leonard, W.P. White, L.D. Robinson, George Covington, F.E. Dunn, L.G. Atkinson, C.W. Ratliffe, G.W. Ratliffe, E.B. Vaughan and S.M. Gaddy. THe flower girls were Misses Ida Johnson, Irene Johnson, Edith Johnson, Mildred Moore, Miriam Watkins, Iris Griggs and Olivia White. The hymns used were "How Firm a Foundation," "Have Thine Own Way Lord," and "Jesus Lover of My Soul." Mr. Griggs was 67 years of age and was a son of the late Rev. John W. Griggs and Mrs. Frances Griggs of Chesterfield county where he was born and reared. He was happily married to Miss Mary Kathyrn Griggs of Chesterfield county on January 9th, 1890, and to this union were born seven children. Mr. and Mrs. Griggs moved to Morven in 1904 where they have since made their home. Mr. Griggs had been in failing health for 3 months. He underwent a very serious operation in Duke Hospital about two weeks ago and seemed to be recovering nicely until he was taken Sunday night of a heart attack when the end came suddenly. Mr. Griggs was one of the communities most substantial citizens. He was a very successful farmer and a most efficient business man. He was a life long loyal member of New Hope Methodist church, attending its services and supporting its needs always with untiring efforts. He was always cheerful and friendly to everyone throughout life's way as he came in contact with them. He is survived by his wife, four daughters, Mesdames J.P. Maxwell of Wadesboro; G.J. Watson of Norwood; Fannie Wal of Morven and Royal Cox of Lumberton, and two sons, Messrs. David and Eugene Griggs of Morven. Two sisters, Mrs. J.F. Northcutt of McFarlan, Mrs. Ida Streater of Chesterfield, and one brother, Mr. J.W. Griggs of Chesterfield also survive.
