April 12, 1860 North Carolina Argus. On last Thurday evening the family of MR. W. H. HUBBARD, residing Anson County about 10 miles from town, were thrown into great distress by the accidental killing of the eldest son, aged about 14 years. On the evening mentioned, just before sunset, he, with several of his father's neighbors and neighbor's hands was out fighting fire in the woods, wich under the influence of a strong wind, threatened great destruction of property, especially on his father's plantation. While passing in the neighborhood of some standing dead pines, the top of one of them blew off, falling on his head and crushing the skull in, causing his death in about an hour after being struck. The loss of this promising boy has cast a deep gloom over the neighborhood in which his parents reside.
