Issue of May 1, 1885.
The Charlotte Observer says  Thomas Poplin, a farmer living near Lilesville, 
Anson County, jumped into a well containing 22 feet of water last Sunday. The 
water being drawn off, Poplin was found sitting on the bottom, dead. The cause 
of his suicide is unknown.
