Will of Nevil Bennett, died 1820. STATE of NORTH CAROLINA : ANSON COUNTY : In the name of God Amen. I Nevel Bennett Senr of the county and State aforesaid being in a low state of body but of sound mind and memory do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament. First I recommend me soul to God who give it and my body to be buried according to the will of my executors. Second I lend to my beloved wife ________ Bennett during her natural life all my land and negroes except a negro woman named Darkis - and a sufience of the stock and household and citchen furniture as shall be a suffiecance for her decent maintenance. Third the negroe woman Darkis above aluded to and such of the stock plantation tools and household furniture as will be more than sufficient for my wife, it is my will shall be sold by my executors to raise money for my underwritten devises. Fourth at the death of my wife I give and bequeath to my nephew William N. Bennett the following negroes Jack, Sarah, Bob and Tempe & increase besides the yellow by name Willis which said boy Willis he is to maintain with decent clothing and good and wholesome food during his life. Fifth at the death of my wife I give and bequeath to my nephew James Bennett my brother James son the following negroes viz Joe, Charlot and Mary and their increase. Sixth I give and bequeath to Chester who lives in the State of Tennessee one thousand dollars [next two lines cut off] … Lizabeth McHenry if they moved from this county some years ago. Eighth I give and bequeath my stock or shares in the Bank of Cape Fear to my two grand nieces - Lizabeth and Sarah Bennett daughters of James Bennett Senr. Ninth Should there be any overplus after satisfying the above devisees one thousand dollars to John Chester I gave and bequeathed the same to Roxie Bennett, Susan Bennett daughters of Wm. N. Bennett, and as Elizabeth Covington and Mary Covington daughters of Simon Covington. Tenth at the death of my wife I give and bequeath my land to Cary or Micajah Bennet son of Wm. Bennett to him and his heirs forever. Eleventh I hereby nominate and appoint Wm. N. Bennett and James Bennett Senr. my executors to this my last will and testament.
