Anson County, NC - Will of Samuel Blackford, 1785 ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Samuel Blackford Will In the name of God, Amen. I Samuel Blackford of Anson County being in my perfect mind and memory but calling to mind the mortality of any body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain This may Last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say Principally and first of all, I commend my soul into the Hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors herein after mentioned nothing doubling but at the General resurrection, I shall receive the same again by the Might Power of God and be made immortal and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God of his infinite mercy and goodness to bless me with in this life, I give, devise, and bequeath in manner following: I give, devise, and bequeath unto my beloved wife Rachel Blackford the use of any plantation together with my stock of horses, cattle, sheep, hogs and all my movable estate during her natural life or widowhood but in case she shall marry again then to discend and be disposed of as herein after directed. Item I give devise and bequeath unto my eldest son Manning Blackford the sum of twenty shillings proclamation money to be raised out of my estate. Item I give devise and bequeath unto my son Matthew Blackford twenty shillings proclamation money to be raised out of my estate. Item I give devise and bequeath unto my daughter Kesiah Andrews twenty shillings proclamation money to be raised out of my estate. Item I give devise and bequeath unto my two daughters Sarah and Ruth all my lands and tenements and movable estate indoors and outdoors of what nature or kind so ever to be equally divided between them at the death or marriage of their mother, my dear wife to hold to them and their heirs assigns forever. Lastly I do constitute and appoint my dear wife Rachel and Mr Duke Glen sole executor and executrix of this my last will and testament and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every other former will, legacies, bequeaths and executors by me in any more before named, willed, and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament in witness whereof I have herunto set my hand and seal this twentith day of June 1781.
