I Arch Caraway of Anson County and the State of North Carolina - Being in a low state of helath, But of a cound and disposing mind and memory, and calling to mind the mortality of our nature's, and that it is appointed for men once to die, I do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, (viz) I recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God, hoping for acceptance with God through the merrits of Jesus Christ and my body to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named and as touching my worldly Goods which it has pleased God Almighty to bestow on me I despose of them in the following manner (viz) first - I desire all my just debts to be paid. Item 1 - My Will and desire is that my son Laban Caraway should have no more of my estate real or personal than what he has formerly received from me. Item 2 - My Will and desire is that my son William T. Caraway should have no more of my estate real or personal than what he has formerly received from me. Item 3 - My Will and desire is that my son Calvin I. Caraway should have no more of my estate real or personal than what he has formerly received from me. Item 4 - My Will and desire is that my son Edwin S. Caraway should have no more of my estate real or personal than what he has formerly received from me. Item 5 - My Will and desire is that my son Taylor Caraway should have no more of my estate real or personal than what he has formerly received from me. Item 6 - My Will and desire is that my son Ellis Caraway should have no more of my estate real or personal than what he has formerly received from me. Item 7 - My Will and desire is that my son John Caraway should have no more of my estate real or personal than what he has formerly received from me comprehending the land I paid Jesse Rowe for him and the title made to him by John Grace and the two negro boys he has in his possession but no deed of gift Ned and Joe to him and his heirs forever. Item 8 - My Will and desire is that my daughter Sarah Boggan should have one hundred dollars to her and her heirs forever over and above what I have formerly given her. Item 9 - My Will and desire is that my daughter Colin Polk should have fifty dollars to her and her heirs forever, over and above what I have forerly given her. Item 10 - My Will and desire is that my Grandson Arche C. Benton should have one hundred dollars to him and his heirs forever. Item 11 - My Will and desire is that my daughter Louisa Hemby should have one hundred and fifty dollars to her and hers forever over and above what she has formerly received from me. Item 12 - I will and bequeath unto my daughter Lucretia R. Ponds my negro girl Diley and her increase and my negro boy Ralph to her and to her lawful heirs born of her body over and above what she has formerly received from me and one hundred dollars in money. Item 13 - I give and bequeath unto my daughter Thettis R. Barber my negro girls Mary and Phillace and their increase to her and their lawful heirs born of her body which negroes she has now in her possession and one hundred dollars over and above what she has formerly received from me. Item 14 - I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Elizabeth Caraway and our two sons Tristram Thomas Caraway and James Clothur Caraway all the rest residue or ballance of my estate real and personal and its increase in the state of North Carolina and South Carolina to be equally divided into three equal parts each to have one third part at their own disposal the boys to take possession of theirs when they arrive to the age of twenty one years to them and their heirs forever. Lastly I do nominate and appoint my beloved wife Elizabeth Caraway my Executrix and Noah B. Hemby and Joseph T. Berch Executors of this my last Will and Testament revoking and disallowing any other will or wills by me made and no other but this to be taken for my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal June the 13th 1832. A. Caraway {Seal} Signed, Sealed & acknowledged in the presence of T. D. Parks James Boggan Edmond L. McLendon Anson County October of 1835 Then this will was exhibited in open court and duly proven by James Boggan and Edmond L. McLendon two of the subscribing witnesses and ordered to be recorded. W. Codicil dated Sep. 10, 1833 I the tesator of the above Will wish this codicil to be considered and taken as a part of my last Will and Testament and there has been some accumulation since the writing of the above. I give and bequeath unto my Grand Daughter Sarah Moore Caraway one hundred dollars to her and her heirs forever to paid over to her with interest from the probate of my Will when she arrived to the age of eighteen years unless it should appear to my executors to greater advantage to her to pay it over sooner as witness my hand and seal Septermber the 10th, 1833. Hightower, Clerk of the Superior Court of aforesaid State and County, do hereby certify the foregoing 3 pages to be and contain a true and correct copy of the last Will and Testament of A. Caraway as taken from and compared with the original of record in this office and recorded in Will Book "B" at page 54.
