Will of Phillip Henry, SR. October 1847 (Probated)

In the name of God, Amen.  I, PHILLIP HENRY, Sr., of the County of
Anson, State of North Carolina, being weak in body, but sound in mind
and perfect memory (blessed be God), do make and publish this my last
will and testament, as follows: that is to say,
1st: I give to my beloved daughter JANE HUNTLEY, wife of ROBERT HUNTLEY,
one Negro woman, by the name Kesisah and her increase, which I value at
five hundred dollars, to her and her heirs forever;
2nd: I give to my beloved daughter MARTHA LOCKHART, one Negro woman, by
the name of Susan, and her increase, which I value at five hundred
dollars for her and her heirs forever;
3rd: I give to my beloved daughter TEMPERANCE JACKSON, wife of JOHN
JACKSON, one Negro boy by the name of Pinkney, which bo I value at the
sum of five hundred dollars, to her and her heirs forever;
4th: It is my will and desire that after my decease that my executors
hereinafter named shall expose to public sale all my property, both
personal and real and my sons WILLIAM K. HENRY, BENJAMIN D. HENRY,
ANDREW J. HENRY, and PHILIP G. HENRY, and my daughter MATILDA GROOVES,
wife of PHILIP GROOVES and ELINOR FLAKE, wife of THOMAS FLAKE, shall
receive out of the proceeds of said sales five hundred dollars.  Each
child to make them equal with the three first named children and the
balance if any to be equally divided between all my above named
children, share and share about.  It is also my will that my two old
Negroes Jack and Amica be put at the highest bidder by my children and
which one of the children takes them shall be paid by my executors out
of my estate.  I also nominate and appoint my sons BENJAMIN D. HENRY and
PHILIP G. HENRY my executors.  To this my last will and testament,
revoking all other wills heretofore by me made.  In witness whereof, I
the said PHILLIP HENRY, Sr., have hereunto set my hand and affixed my
seal, this 16th day of February A.D. 1846. Sign, sealed and declared by
the said PHILLIP HENRY.  This to be his will in the presence of us.

Court of pleas and quarter sessions October Term 1847.  Then the
foregoing will was proved in open court by the oath of SAM'L SMITH, one
of the subscribing witnesses, thereto and ordered to be recorded.
Whereupon BENJAMIN D. HENRY and PHILLIP G. HENRY appeared in open court
and was duly qualified as executors and obtained letters to testimony.
