ANSON COUNTY, NC - WILLS - Hugh Ross, 18 Nov 1793 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- In the name of God, amen. The eighteenth day of November one thousand and seven hundred and ninety three, I Hugh Ross of Anson County, North Carolina, being sick in body but of good and perfect memory thanks be to Almighty God and calling to remeberance the uncertain estate of this transitory life and that all flesh must yield unto death when it shall please God to call, do make, constitute and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following, revoking and annuling by these persents, all and every testament or wills heretofore by me made either by word or writing and this is to be taken only for my last will and testament and none other. Fist I will and bequeath to my dear and loving wife Margaret Ross the use or income of my negroe George, during her natural life and my stock of cattle and sheep and house hold furniture which I empower her to divide equally when she may think most convenient, I do likewise allow her the use in conjunction with my sons of my plantation in Iredell County, if she chooses to live theron with them I do also give her a horse and saddle and two feather beds and furniture. Item: To my daughters Mary, Jean, and Katherine I do will and bequeath the sum of eighty pounds current money of this State to be paid to each of them at the time the youngest is eighteen years of age or as soon as it may be convenient for my executors hereinafter named I do give to each of them a serviceable horse and saddle and to each a bed and furniture and an equal part of the stock at their mother's death or when she may think proper to give them their dividend. Item: To my daughter Margaret Campbell I do will and bequeath the sum of fifteen pounds which her husband owes me and also the sum of five pounds to be paid her by my executors at the time that her youngest sister is of age or when most convenient and if any of my daughters, Mary, Jean, or Katherine should die without issue it is my will that her (or their) part be queally divided among the surviving sisters. Item: To my sons Donald and Hugh Ross I do will and bequeath the remainder of my estate, my land in this county and also in Iredell, my negro fellow George, after my wife's decease and their equal part of the stock, a feather bed to each and my farming utensils the remainder of my horses and all my hogs and also all the debts which are owing to me, whether bonds, notes or book accounts, and I do hereby charge them will all my just debts to pay the same out of their legacies as soon as possible and if either of them shall die with lawful issue then it is my will and desire that the surviving brother shall inherit his part of the estate. Lastly, I do make, ordain and appoint my wife, executrix of this my will and my sons Donald and Hugh Ross, Exe's of this my last will and testament. In witness thereof I the said Hugh Ross have to this my last will and testament set my hand and seal the day and year above written.
