Ashe County NcArchives Deed.....Perkins, Johnson - Graybeal, John October 28, 1862 ************************************************ Copyright. Elias, the slave is mentioned in a letter which John wrote to his wife Rebecca on October 20 of the same month in which he tells her to sell Elias. The letter is posted on the USGenWeb site for Ashe County. John owned a few slaves which I believe (but no proof) he may have received from his father-in-law, Timothy Perkins. When John left Ashe County to move out west he took with him a former slave by the name of Hiram who took the Graybeal name. Hiram remained close to John's family up until his death in 1922 in Custer County, Colorado. Kyle R. Graybeal. k r g r e b i e l @verizon.net +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Ashe County, N.C.
