C. He resided in Burke County when he volunteered to fight Cherokee Indians under Colonel Robert Alexander. He was stationed at Edmondston's Fort and served under Major Joseph McDowell in the battle of Cowpens. He was granted a discharge by Major Joseph McDowell.
