Avery County, NC - Henley-Moore Cemetery - Montezuma Henley-Moore Cemetery - Montezuma From Newland, NC, take Route 181 South. Turn right on Old NC 181. Turn left at the Montezuma Post Office. Take the second right Maple St., and then the first left Scenic Ridge Ln. (private road). Before the road goes through a gate, there are some steps on the left going up between the rhododendreon bushes. The cemetery, behind the bushes, is in a clearing. It is bordered by small stones. This cemetery was first surveyed in the early 1970's and is included in the publication "Lest We Forget - An Index to Avery County Cemeteries" by Martha A. Pyatt, 1975, available at the Avery County Museum in Newland, NC. The current survey (made by digital photos on June 23, 2007) is published with the permission of the museum. Digital copies of photos will be provided upon request to David.Holden@t-online.de THE SURNAMES HENLEY, MOORE, ROONEY Henley, M. A. There are signs (depressions in the ground) that additional graves may be here, and the border stones enclose a much larger area than needed for the three graves above, but I could find no other markers of any kind.
