AVERY COUNTY

NEW HOPEWELL BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY

LOCATION: In eastern Avery County at the mountain crossroads called 
Gragg, also known as Cary's Flats. From the Blue Ridge Parkway exit 
to Grandfather Mountain, take 221 North about 0.5 miles. You will see 
an unpaved road (Edgemont Road) peel off diagonally on the right and a 
faded sign referring to the Church. Drive down this road 5.2 miles; 
you will come out at the crossroads. Stop at the intersection and 
look to your right down the hill towards the small lake. The cemetery 
is down there, and the access road as well. Take this road and pass 
the cemetery; there is parking just beyond it.

ACCESSIBILITY:   Moderately difficult.  The drive to the crossroads 
on Edgemont Road is steep and twisting and probably dangerous in bad 
weather.   When the road is dry however, you will not need a four 
wheel drive vehicle.
