Avery County, NC - Pittman Cemetery - Addendum Although not marked, I know for a fact that my great-great-grandfather and his wife were buried in this cemetery in unmarked graves. They would be Sites # 117 & 118, beside of their son-in-law Clyde Jackson. Their names are: Joseph Franklin Buchanan, b. Dec. 1851 - d. 5-04-1931 Isabell (Ibby) Greene Buchanan, b. Nov. 1959 - d. abt. 1934 Joseph Franklin Buchanan's death certificate says he's buried at "Henson's Creek" Their granddaughter told me that they were buried in the Pitman Cemetery, beside Clyde Jackson, their son-in-law, under boxwood plants because they could not afford tombstones. When Franklin died, his wife planted boxwoods there so that people would remember where they were buried. Mellanie Hensley Knight, a proud great-great-granddaughter, who just wants her grandfather remembered. ______________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
