	Mr. Waitsel Aldridge, aged ninety-four, died Friday, October fifth at 
his home at Hughes, where he has lived for the past five years. 
	Mr. Aldridge was a member of the Baptist church for more than fifty 
years.  He was at one time commissioner of Mitchell county and was the leading 
man in the county.  It is said of him that he never refused a poor widow or 
anyone, but was always loving and giving to the needy and when buying -----, 
would see to it that the other  fellow was the one who profited. He was 
confederate veteran and peceoner.   His last aid from this source arrived only 
a few hours before his death.
	At the age of twenty Mr. Aldridge was married to Miss Polly Johnson and 
to this union was born twelve children, nine of whom are living, with about a 
hundred and fifty grand children and great grand children (exact number not 
known), to mourn his loss.  He was the last member of a generation of seven, of 
which three brothers and three sisters had gone on before.
	The children surviving are, Mrs. Annie Vance, Mrs. Sarah Jane 
Culbertson and Mr. Louis Aldridge, of Crossnore; Mr. Mr. Will Aldridge and Mrs. 
Stell Vance, of Hughes; Mr. Abe Aldridge and Mrs. Tempie Vance, of Pineola; 
Mrs. Minnie Hughes, of Newland, and Mr. Ben Aldridge, of Elk Park.  The three 
children deceased were Poppie, Laura and Waits.  The bereaved ones have the 
sympathy of a host of friends, although their loss is his gain.
	The body was laid to rest in Daniels cemetery Saturday afternoon.
	Funeral services will be conducted on the fourth Sunday of this month, 
the 28th.
