Gladys R. Baker 


    Gladys R. Baker, 92, of Elizabethton, formerly of Baltimore, Md., passed 
away Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at NHC Health Care, Johnson City. 


    A native of Avery County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Omer C. and 
Ossie McNeal Hagie. 


    Mrs. Baker was a graduate of Cranberry High School, Elk Park, N.C. She had 
lived a number of years in Baltimore before moving to Elizabethton. She was a 
retired bookkeeper and attended the Lynn Avenue Church of God. 


    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, 
Millard "Jimmy" Baker; a daughter, Margarette Turbyfill; a grandson, David 
Harris; two sisters and a brother. 


    Survivors include three granddaughters, Jean Livingston, Virginia Beach, 
Va., Jodia Turbyfill-Mercereau, Chapel Hill, N.C., and Mitzi Creel, St. 
Petersburg, Fla. Eight great-grandchildren also survive. 


    The family would like to express a special "thank you" to the NHC Health 
Care, Johnson City, for their support and encouragement. In lieu of flowers 
memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Baker to the Margarette Turbyfill 
Memorial Fund, RBC Centura Bank, % Charles Haynes, 1168 Blowing Rock Road, 
Boone, NC 28607. Condolences to the Baker family may be e-mailed to
