ETHEL MAE BENFIELD
Newland - Ethel Mae Benfield, age 80, of Morganton, formerly of the Pyatte 
community of Avery County, died Sunday, March 17, 1996, in Grace Hospital, 
Morganton.  A native of Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas 
and Zillia Calloway Benfield and was retired from Tar Heel Mica Co.  She was a 
member of Big Meadows Baptist Church and had recently been attending Morganton 
First Church of God.
Survivors include a daughter Jean Starkey of Morganton; sons, Cecil and Jimmy 
Benfield of Morganton; sister Jody Barrier of Morganton; seven grandchildren, 
and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 19, at Big Meadows Baptist Church with the Revs. Don 
Smith and Harry Lee Turbyfill officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
