Mitchell News-Journal 
NEWLAND - Jeanette Benfield, 74, of Little Plumtree Creek, died Sunday, July
31, 2005 in a Spruce Pine rest home. She was the daughter of the late Coleman
Isaac and Lula Shook Burleson, and wife of Frank Benfield. She was also
preceded in death by her step-mother, Bonnie Burleson Lutman. She was a member
of Victory Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughters, Wanda Benfield of Newland, Wilma Ollis of
Nashville, TN, and Eula Johnson of Crossnore; sons, Edward and David Benfield,
both of Newland; sisters, Lucille Buchanan and Martha Benfield, both of
Newland, Mary Johnson and Elzora Dale, both of Morganton; and Nora Lail and
Barbara Young, both of Drexel; brothers, Demery Burleson of Granite Falls,
C.L. Burleson of Spruce Pine, and Rev. Glen Burleson of Newland; seven
grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 8
p.m. Tuesday at Victory Baptist Church. Revs. James Beaver and Jacob Willis
officiated. Burial was at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Big Meadows Cemetery. The
family received friends from 6 p.m. until the service hour Tuesday at the
church.
