PAUL LAWRENCE BUCHANAN JR 

NEWLAND - Paul Lawrence Buchanan Jr, 78, of Violet Lane, died Sunday, April 6, 
2008. He was the son of the late Paul and Ethel Roten Buchanan, and a retired 
rock mason and carpenter. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. 
and a member of Powder Mill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Buchanan of the home; sons, Keith 
Buchanan of Newland, and Paul Watson of Spruce Pine; one brother, Alvin Austin 
Buchanan of Plumtree; five grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and one great 
grandchild. 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Yellow Mountain Baptist 
Church. John Stafford officiated. burial followed in Yellow Mountain Cemetery 
with Avery County VFW conducting military graveside honors. The family 
received friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in
