DELORA BUCHANAN 

NEWLAND - Delora Buchanan, 92, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006 in Spruce Pine Brian 
Center. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Dona Justice Burleson, and 
the wife of the late Gurney Buchanan. She was also preceded in death by a son, 
Donald Buchanan; a daughter, Claudette Johnson; two grandsons: Richard 
Buchanan and Michael Johnson; and a brother, Cecil Burleson. She was an 
employee of Tarheel Mica Company for 42 years, and a member of Henson Creek 
Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Buchanan of Cleveland, Tenn. and James 
Buchanan of Newland; two sisters: Addie Barrier of Newland and Dorothy Arthur 
of Louisville, Ky.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. 

Funeral Services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Henson Creek Baptist Church. 
The Rev. Earl Carver Jr. officiated. Burial followed in Yellow Mountain 
Cemetery. The family received friends from 1:30 p.m. until the service hour 
Sunday at the church. Memorial donations may be made to Henson Creek Baptist 
Church, c/o Norma Goforth, 251 Oak Tree Lane, Newland, NC 28657. Yancey 
Funeral Service is assisting the family.
