AVERY COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Brown Buchanan, 16 Sep 2004

NEWLAND - Brown Buchanan, 81, of U.S. Hwy. 19E South, died Thursday, 
Sept. 16, 2004 in Spruce Pine Community Hospital. A native of Mitchell 
County, he was the son of the late Dexter and Minnie Thomas Buchanan. 
He was also preceded in death by a son, Richard (Rick) Buchanan; two 
brothers, Lonnie and Howard Buchanan; and a sister, Tessie McClellan. 
He was a member of Powdermill Baptist Church.  
Survivors include his wife, Mary Buchanan of the home; daughters, Carol 
Snyder and Becky Lowery, both of Spruce Pine; one brother, Virgus 
Buchanan of Spruce Pine; three sisters, Texie Jones, Iva McClellan and 
Alice Buchanan, all of Spruce Pine; two grandchildren; step-granddaughter; 
and one great grandson. 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Grindstaff Memorial 
Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Revs. Harold Dellinger, Bill 
Stewart and Brent Price officiated. Burial was in Yellow Mountain Cemetery. 
The family received friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
