BEAM NEWLAND – Bob G. Beam, 66, of Three Mile Hwy., died Friday, April 13, 2001 in an Asheville hospital. A native of Mitchell County, he was the son of the late James Ramey Beam and Essie Irene Ollis Beam of Spruce Pine. A graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, he was retired from the N.C. Division of Adult Probation and Parole. He was a member and Past Master of the Vesper Lodge #554 and a member and past president of the Avery Shrine Club. An active member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church, he served as a Sunday School teacher. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Kevin William Beam. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Margaret Bellamy Beam of the home; sons, Bobby Beam of Roan Mtn., TN, and Kenneth Beam of Cornelius; sisters, Brenda Eng of Spruce Pine, Barbara Stadley of Statesville, Bonita Bishop of Hickory, and Beverly VanRoekel of Lexington. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Grandfather Chapel of Reins- Sturdivant Funeral Homes. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
