Edith C. Bowlick

Edith Cardwell Bowlick, age 86, 4507 South Indian River Drive, Fort 
Pierce, Fla. and Peter Hardin Lane, Elk Park, N.C., went home to be 
with her heavenly Father on Tuesday, August 5, 2003 following an extended 
illness. She was residing with her niece, Leunah Tipton, 627 Golf Course 
Drive, Elizabethton. A native of Elk Park, Mrs. Bowlick was the daughter 
of the late R.N. and Lida Leunah Vance Cardwell and was also preceded in 
death by her husband, C.A. Bowlick and her only brother, R.E. Cardwell, Sr. 
Mrs. Bowlick was a member of First Baptist Church of Elk Park and also 
attended Sunrise Baptist Church of Fort Pierce. She was very active in both 
churches until her illness. She graduated from Cranberry High School and 
was a graduate of Women's College University of North Carolina, Greensboro. 
She and her husband were educators and taught for many years in the Avery 
County area and later ran a business school in Fort Pierce. Edith and C.A. 
conceived the idea of the Cranberrian Corporation; she served as secretary/
treasurer of the corporation for her many years of service. Survivors 
include two nieces and spouses, Leunah and Jolly Tipton, Elizabethton; 
Mary Ruth and Gordon Ownby, of Richmond, Va.; one nephew and spouse, R.E. 
and Marjorie Nelle Cardwell, of Elizabethton; 7 great nieces and nephews, 
Viki Campbell, Jennifer Lynn Perkins, Lee, Dean and Steve Ownby, and 
Robbie and Jon Cardwell; 17 great great nieces and nephews; one great 
great great niece, and two great great great nephews. Funeral services 
for Edith Cardwell Bowlick will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 
6, 2003 from the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with 
Revs. Rufus Biddix and Clarence Laws officiating. Interment will follow 
Thursday, August 7, 2003 at 11 a.m. in the Bowlick Cemetery. The family 
will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. until the service hour
