HARLEY BURNETTE JR.

NEWLAND - Harley Burnette Jr., 65, of Little Henson Creek Road, 
died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002 in a Linville hospital. He was the son
of the late Harley Burnette Sr. and Daisy Mae McKinney Burnette 
of Spruce Pine. A member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, he 
was president of the local Unimin union, UTWA.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Kate 
Johnson Burnette; a son, Steven Burnette of Spruce Pine; a 
daughter, Carolyn Johnson of Fort Worth, TX; brothers, Roger 
and Jimmy Burnette, both of Spruce Pine; one grandchild; and 
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Grindstaff 
Memorial Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Revs. Earl 
Carver Jr. and Monroe Cook officiated. Burial was in Burnette 
Cemetery. The family received friends from 10 a.m. until the 
service hour Thursday at the funeral Home.
