Cannon Alma Cable Cannon, 91, 819 Hemlock Street, Elizabethton, died Monday, May 29, 2006, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Cannon was a native of Elk Park, N.C., and had lived most of her life in Carter County. She was a daughter of the late Jake and Channie Rhymer Cable. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Cannon, in 1961, and by four sisters and three brothers. Mrs. Cannon was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and had retired from Ledford's Upholstery. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Fred "Sonny" Shoun, Elizabethton; a son, Ted Cannon, Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren and spouses, Gene and Katherine Shoun, Denver, Colo., Blake Cannon, Los Angeles, Calif., and Ann and J.D. Byrd, Murfreesboro; and four great-grandchildren, Whitney and Jessica Byrd, both of Murfreesboro, and Amanda and Katie Shoun, both of Denver, Colo. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mrs. Cannon will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 1, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Sorah and Dr. Ray Sorrell officiating. Music will be under the direction of Arlene Bennett. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the residence of her daughter, Barbara Shoun, 821 Hemlock Street, Elizabethton, at anytime. The graveside service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 2, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be nephews and friends. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Carter County Emergency and Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 682, Elizabethton, TN 37643. The family wishes to extend a special "thank you" to the staff and employees of Ivy Hall Nursing Home, the staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital ER and the Carter County Rescue Squad for all the prayers and visits on behalf of Mrs. Cannon.
