AVERY COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Roby D. Carver, 20 May 2003 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Roby D. Carver Roby D. Carver, 79, 160 Howard Lipford Drive, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, May 20, 2003 in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. A native of Avery County, North Carolina, he was a son of the late John and Roselle Bass Carver. He had lived a number of years in Elizabethton. Mr. Carver was a graduate of Cranberry High School, Elk Park, N.C. He retired from Giant Supermarket in 1984 after 30 years of service. He also had worked for Food Lion. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Carver was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Kate McKenzie, Vera Carver and Elvie Carver, and five brothers, Charles, Dan, Morris, Rhonda, and John Carver. Survivors include his wife, Ivalee Norris Carver; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Michael Odom, Elizabethton; a son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Sherry Carver, of Johnson City; a very special grandson, Jeremy Odom, and several nieces and nephews. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. CARVER -- Funeral services for Roby D. Carver, 79, 160 Howard Lipford Drive, Elizabethton, who died Tuesday, May 20, 2003, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2003 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Stout officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2003 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Friday will be Jeremy Odom, Michael Odom, Travis Norris, Luther Norris, David Williams, Michael Williams, and Robert Norris. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. Military graveside honors will be conducted by VFW Post #2166.
