AVERY COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Alberta Lee Ollis Connell, 15 Jan 2005 ----¤¤¤¤---- Alberta O. Connell Alberta Lee Ollis Connell, 81, US Highway 19-E, Newland, N.C. died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at her residence. A native of Avery County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Brownlow and Bertha Belle Julian Ollis. She was a graduate of the Cranberry High School. Mrs. Connell had lived in Georgia from 1950 until she returned to Avery County in 1995. She was a retired medical secretary with the Robins Air Force Base, Warner Robins, Ga. She was a member of the Cranberry Baptist Church. Mrs. Connell was preceded n death by her husband, Elmer Donald Connell, Nov. 20, 1998, by a granddaughter, Eliza Lee Connell, and two brothers, Ray L. Ollis and Walter Brownlow Ollis, Jr. Survivors include four daughters and two sons-in-law, Lou Anne and Woody Powell of Hawkinsville, Ga., Donna Lee Connell Thomas of Cranberry, Beth Davis and Amanda and Vincente Garcia, all of Warner Robins, Ga.; one son, Joseph William "Joe Bill" Connell of Warner Robins, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; five sisters and brothers-in- law, Ludella O. and Verlon Carter of Gainesville, Ga., Lois O. and Guy Rabb and Brownnell O. and Gene Allman, all of Cranberry, N.C., Grace O. and Doyle Calhoun of Newland, N.C., and Jean O. and Gene Honeycutt, Johnson City; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Robert J. Ollis and Joseph S. and Glenna Ollis, all of Marietta, Ga., and Lois M. Ollis, of Kannapolis, N.C. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in the Cranberry Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Burnop and Chaplain Brent Price officiating. Interment will follow in the Cranberry Cemetery. Music will be provided by the Ollis Family. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the church at 9:55 a.m. Monday, will be Joe Connell, David Thomas, Archie Thompson, Bucky Hicks, Brad Turbyfill and Donnie Potter. The body will be moved to the residence of Joe Ollis, Cranberry, "The Big House" (19 E and Tucker Hollow Road) at 1 p.m. Sunday where friends may call at any time. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Connell to the Avery County Hospice. The body will be moved to the church one hour before services.
