She was the daughter of the late Roby and Flora Stamey, and wife of the late Elmer Carpenter. She began her nursing career at Sloop Memorial Hospital in Crossnore and retired in 1991 from Baxter’s Health Care. Survivors include four sons, Lee Carpenter of Winston-Salem, Wayne Carpenter of Knightdale, Ralph Carpenter of Covington, KY, and Emerson Carpenter of Chandler, AZ; a surrogate daughter, Susan Clark of Newland; a brother, Boyd Lee Stamey of Pennington Gap, VA; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. Burial followed in Pisgah Cemetery.
