RUSSELL DAVIS

SPRUCE PINE – Russell Davis, 72, of Fairview Church Road, died Saturday, 
September 8, 2001 at his home. A native of Avery County, he was the son of the 
late Jake and Addie Hoilman Davis. He was also preceded in death by a sister, 
Christine Woody; a brother, Ronald Davis; and a grandson, Chris Metcalf. He 
was a retired loader operator for Unimin Corp., and a member of Fairview 
Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia Wilson Davis; daughters, Gail Metcalf, 
Dorothy Barnett, Cathy Pitman, and Vickie Davis, all of Spruce Pine; sons, 
Johnny Davis and Gary Davis, both of Huntsville, AL; 11 grandchildren; and 
nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Grindstaff Memorial 
Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Revs. Earl Carver, Jr. and Charles 
Lewis officiated. Burial followed in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery. The 
family received friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Monday.
