ELIZA CAROLINE ERWIN 

NEWLAND - Eliza Caroline Erwin, 98, of Big Horse Creek, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 
2008 at her home. She was the daughter of the late George Michael and Mary 
Catherine Lockner Erwin. She was a graduate of Cranberry High School and 
retired from the Tarheel Mica Company. She was preceded in death by six 
brothers, Martin, Walter, Edward, Isaac, and James Erwin, all of Newland and 
Curtis Erwin of Abes Valley, Va.; and four sisters; Pearl Hicks of Abes 
Valley, Va., Epsey Dalton of Hillsville, Va., and Nell and Madge Erwin, both 
of Newland. She enjoyed reading, word searches, and loved the Lord and her 
family.

Survivors include foster children, Vicky Pritchard and William Ed Erwin of 
Newland, and Mildred Howell and Sheila Zacarellia of Sumter, S.C.; and several 
nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services were held on Wednesday at the Lewis Chapel Freewill Baptist 
Church. The Revs. Gene Carver, Reed Callahan, and Jack Ollis officiated. 
Graveside services and burial were at 11 a.m. Thursday in Minneapolis 
Methodist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until the 
service hour Wednesday at the church. Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine 
assisted the family.
