Fine Jr. John Franklin Fine Jr., of Elizabethton, was taken home Wednesday, February 14, 2007, to be with his Lord at the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Avery County, N.C., he was a son of the late John Franklin Fine Sr. and Margie McQueen Fine. He lived his life in Elizabethton. John was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and East Tennessee State University, where he received his Master's of Education. He began his career at Hunter Elementary School, where he served seven years as a seventh and eighth grade teacher. John then went to Unaka Elementary School as principal for two years, when he was asked to go to Unaka High School as principal. There, John served Unaka High School for 28 years, making him the longest running principal of any one school in Carter County. Joint House Resolution No. 308 to Honor and Commend him as Principal of Unaka High School dated April 21, 2005. John was a member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton, where he served as a deacon. He attended Potter's Clay Sunday School Class, where he was a team leader. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Dove McQueen, and his grandmother, Mamie Goodwin Fine; an aunt and uncle, Edward and Lucille Pearson; an uncle and aunt, Robert and Beth Fine; an uncle, Von Dean; and his father-in-law, Norman Glen Hart. John left behind a family, his wife, Connie Hart Fine; daughters, Ashley Lynn Fine and Brittany Leigh Fine; one aunt, JoAnn McQueen Dean; his mother-in- law, Mildred Hart; and cousins, Phil Pearson and Leslie Pearson, Curtis and Cory Pearson, Jeana Beth Fine Frye and Steve Fine, along with all of his beloved "children" at Unaka High School. A funeral service to celebrate the life of John Franklin Fine Jr. will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, February 16, at Unaka High School with Rev. Brent Seals and Rev. Tim Tapp officiating. The Eulogy will be given by Maggie Greene, Julie Yankee, Mickey Taylor and Raymond Morton. Graveside services and interment will be at 12 noon Saturday, February 17, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be the deacons of First Baptist Church. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Fine to Unaka High School, 119-A Robinson Lane, Elizabethton, TN 37643, where a scholarship is being set up. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Unaka High School. Friends may also call at his residence.
