Ruth E. Franklin 


    NEWLAND, N.C. -- "Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband 
also, and he praiseth her." Proverbs 31:28 


    Ruth Erwin Franklin, of Powdermill, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2008, 
at her residence. She was born a daughter of the late Arthur and Ethel Barnett 
Crain. 


    Ruth was a member of Burbank Freewill Baptist Church and attended 
Powdermill Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. 


    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first 
husband, Marlin Erwin, her second husband, William "Willie" Franklin, and two 
brothers, Bill and Vernon Crain. 


    Survivors include two sons, Danny Erwin, Newland, and Terry Crain and wife 
Martha, Elizabethton, Tenn.; a sister, Charlotte Hunt, Valdese; two brothers, 
Bob Crain, Florence, S.C., and Delany Crain, Elizabethton, Tenn.; 
grandchildren, Dean Jones and Angela Vaughn, both of Elizabethton, Tenn.; four 
great-grandchildren, Erica Estep, Jennifer Estep, Hunter Jones and Logan 
Ronark; and her grand dog, Tigger Ray Erwin. 


    The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at 
Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home of Newland. Funeral services will be held at 1 
p.m. Wednesday April 16, in the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral 
Home with Rev. Harold Dellinger officiating. Interment services will follow at 
Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Charles Hunt, Jeff Hunt, Grady 
Hill, Kelly Crain, Charles Ballard, Terry Buchanan, Dean Jones and Lee 
Benfield. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family and viewed at

    Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home of Newland, N.C., (828) 733-2121, is serving
