AVERY COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Dayton O. Greene, 12 Mar 2003 ----¤¤¤¤---- Dayton O. Greene Dayton O. Greene, 82, Honeycutt Road, Roan Mountain, died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Greene was a native of Avery County, N.C., and had lived in Carter County most of his life. He was the son of the late James and Nola Cook Greene and was also preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Mr. Greene was a member of Crabtree Free Will Baptist Church and was a retired farmer. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Miller Greene, of the home; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Charlotte and James Heaton, Elizabethton, Shirley Cornett, Nola and Mitchell Honeycutt and Lola Glenn, all of Hampton; a son-in-law, Dean Markland, Hampton; a son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Rosella Greene, Roan Mountain; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; five sisters, Hazel Chambers, Roan Mountain, Lucy Guinn, Elizabethton, Ruth Webb, Piney Flats, Mary Lou McKinney, Newland, N.C., and Norma Jean Arnett, Roan Mountain; and six brothers, Emmett Greene, Elizabethton, Junior Greene, Van Buren, Ind., Stewart Greene, Flint, Mich., Harold Greene, Newland, N.C., Dick Greene and Jake Greene, both of Roan Mountain. Greene, 82, Honeycutt Road, Roan Mountain, who died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, March 14, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Carver and the Rev. Ronnie Peterson officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Crabtree Free Will Baptist Church Quartet. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at Cook Cemetery, Elk Park, N.C. Active pallbearers will be selected from his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Townson, friends and neighbors and members of Crabtree Free Will Baptist Church. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m. Saturday.
