Hagie, 81, 7979 Highway 19-E, Roan Mountain, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, De. 19, 2006, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center, Roan Mountain, following an extended illness. A native of Avery County, N.C., and a resident of Roan Mountain most of his life, he was the son of the late Monie and Nannie Stansberry Hagie. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Roan Mountain, and a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation after more than 30 years of service. He loved gospel and country music and also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Hagie was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Moody. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Marie Hagie of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael Wayne and Linda Hagie of Elk Park, N.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Elaine Hagie Whitson and Terry Whitson, Kingsport; three grandchildren, Michael Chad and spouse, Carolyn Hagie, Jered Whitson and Deanna Whitson; great grandchildren, Railey Whitson, Hannah Grace Hagie; nieces, Janice Cagle, Diane Joyce; step great grandchildren, Kaitlin Krems, Abigail Krems; special sister-in-law, Marybelle Lyons; special thanks to the staff and nurses of Roan Highlands Nursing Center. The funeral service for Mr. Hagie will be conducted at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006 at 8 p.m. with Pastor Terry Whitson, Rev. Richard Stout, and Rev. Bruce DeVoe officiating. Music will be under the direction of First Baptist Church of Roan Mountain Choir and Dana Dean and Jo Nell Young. The family will receive friends on Thursday at the funeral home chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. or other times at the residence. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 12 noon Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at the Happy Valley Memorial Park. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, at 11 a.m. on Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Richard Carter, Leslie Roberson, Rick Freeman, Randy Freeman, Reese Hughes, and Chad Hagie. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Hughes, Martin Meredith, Leo Meredith, Jeff Lyons, Jerry McCoury, Marion "Bud" Shipley, Ronnie Jack Freeman, and Roy Smith and deacons of First Baptist Church, Roan Mountain.
