SAMUEL LESTER HEATON 

SPRUCE PINE - Sam Lester Heaton Jr., 85, of Avery County, died Sunday, April 
13, 2008. He was the son of the late Samuel L. Heaton Sr. and Myra Burleson 
Heaton. He was also preceded in death by his only daughter, Truda Myra 
Murchison; and a brother, Wilson Heaton. He worked for Harris Mining Company 
for 41 years, becoming plant superintendent. He served as Sunday School 
Superintendent at Pine Grove United Methodist Church for 10 years. He loved to 
work in his garden and yard.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Greene Heaton; two sisters Lottie Ollis and 
Anna Lee Baird, both of Spruce Pine; one granddaughter; eight nieces; and two 
nephews. 

Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Pine Grove United Methodist 
Church. Revs. Ken Anderson, John Duvall, and Paul Davenport officiated. Burial 
followed in Pine Grove Cemetery. The family received friends from 4 p.m. until 
the service hour Wednesday at the church. Memorial donations may be made to 
Pine Grove Cemetery Fund, 53 Pine Grove Road, Spruce Pine, NC 28777. Webb 
Funeral Home in Spruce Pine assisted the family.
