BOONE, N.C. -- Mrs. Calonia Palmer Hampton, 89, of Boone, wife of the late
Cecil J. Hampton, died Thursday, March 31, 2005, at Watauga Medical Center in
Boone.

Mrs. Hampton was born September 17, 1915 in Avery County, to the late Roy and
Sophronia Walsh Palmer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death
by a brother, Clarence Palmer, and a sister, Mrs. Helen Horton.

Mrs. Hampton was a retired buyer for Belk Department Store. She was a member
of Mount Vernon Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria Jean and John Minko,
Martinsburg, W.Va., and Mary Helen and Bill Hampton, Deep Gap; five
grandchildren, Joseph Cecil Minko, Baltimore, Md., Mitchell Hampton and wife
Carrie, Mountain City, Tenn., Billana Berry and husband Doug, Cliff Hampton
and wife Maggie and Chance Hampton, all of Deep Gap; three sisters and a
brother-in-law, Euna and Sanford Miller, Albemarle, Mrs. Reba Miller, Boone,
and Mrs. Nell Smith, Lenoir; and a brother and sister-in-law, Burl and
Catherine Palmer, Lenoir. Ten great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and
nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hampton will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at
Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Boone with Rev. Allan Blume and Rev. Bud
Russell officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park &
Gardens in Boone. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, April 2, at Hampton Funeral Service in Boone. Flowers are
appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to Mount Vernon Baptist
Church, 3505 Bamboo Road, Boone, N.C. 28607. Hampton Funeral Service, 683
Blowing Rock Road, Boone, N.C., (828) 264-7100, is in charge of arrangements.
