AVERY COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Mary Alice Hampton, 30 Apr 2005

Mrs. Mary Alice Hampton, 84, Cloudland Drive, Roan Mountain, died
unexpectedly at her residence Saturday, April 30, 2005.

Mrs. Hampton was a native of Elk Park, N.C., and a daughter of the late Walter
Verne and Katherine Elizabeth Matherly Moore. In addition to her parents, she
was preceded in death by her husband, Elige Evan Hampton, and a grandson, Bill
Hampton Jr.

Mrs. Hampton was a member of the First Baptist Church of Roan Mountain and was
owner and operator of the Rhododendron Antique Shop for 35 years.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Jackie Hampton, Roan
Mountain; a grandson, Wade Evan Hampton, Roan Mountain; a great-grandson,
Elige Evan Hampton, Roan Mountain; and two step-granddaughters, Terri Wiseman
and Toni Hodge, both of Johnson City. Three step-great-grandchildren also
survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hampton will be conducted at 12 noon, Tuesday, May
3, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom
Burleson officiating. Music will be under the direction of Bobby Lee Cates.
Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will
be Eddie Burleson, Lawson Kerley, Rob Cates, Chris Cates, R.A. Burleson, Marty
Proffitt and John Farthing. The family will receive friends in the Sunset
Chapel from 11 until 12 noon Tuesday, prior to the service. Friends may also
call at the residence of her son, Bill Hampton, 133 Roan Street, Roan
Mountain. To those who desire, memorials may be made to the Roan Mountain
First Baptist Church, 8489 Hwy. 19E, Roan Mountain, TN 37687. Online
