A native of Avery County, he was the son of the late Robert and Jeanette Hicks Huskins and a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was retired from Baxter Labs. Survivors include his wife, Janice Hoyle Huskins of the home; a son, Charles Huskins Jr. of Middletown, DE; a step brother, Donald Freeman of Marion; a step daughter, Hazel Stroud of Rutherfordton; seven grandchildren; four aunts; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Revs. Jim Boyd and Jim Durham officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at the church. Austin & Barnes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, P.O.
