McKinney Charles H. McKinney, 78, 810 Liberty Bell Blvd., Johnson City, died Saturday, April 19, 2008, at the James H. Quillen Veterans Medical Center at Mountain Home. A native of Avery County, N.C., he had lived most of his life in Johnson City and was the son of the late Ira and Novella Johnson McKinney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee and Allen McKinney. Mr. McKinney was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation with 44 years of service. He was a U.S Army veteran and a member of Harrison Christian Church. Mr. McKinney was an avid golfer, coached Little League Baseball, enjoyed fishing and gardening, and loved telling stories and jokes. Survivors include his loving wife, Norma Lee McKinney, of the home; four sons, Mike and wife Shirley McKinney of Gray, Rick and wife Susanne McKinney of Johnson City, Gary McKinney and fianc√Še Laurel Harris of Kingsport and Bill and wife Sissy McKinney of Johnson City; two brothers, Ronald McKinney and wife Dot of Anniston, Ala., and Richard McKinney and wife Lucille of Jonesborough; a sister-in-law, Louise McKinney of Johnson City; nine grandchildren, Dusty McKinney and wife Laura of Johnson City, Josh Goulds of Gray, Luke McKinney of Johnson City, Darren McKinney of Johnson City, Travis McKinney of Knoxville, Desiree and Gabriel McKinney, both of Kingsport, Benjamin and Amy McKinney, both of Johnson City; and three great- grandchildren, Ryland McKinney of Johnson City, Kaitlyn and Connor Goulds, both of Gray. The funeral service for Mr. McKinney will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, in the Morris-Baker South Chapel with Rev. Robbie Phillips officiating. Active pallbearers will be Lowell Haun, Jan Wilcox, Buddy Teague, Travis McKinney, Darren McKinney, Josh Goulds, Dusty McKinney and Benjamin McKinney. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Ferrell, Lonnie Laws, Glen Laws, Eddie Laws and James Laws. The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, at Washington County Memory Gardens. Everyone will meet at Morris-Baker at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to go in procession. Military Honors will be accorded by the VFW Post #3382 and the Tennessee National Guard of Kingsport.
