He was the son of the late Isaac and Pearl Burleson McKinney. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Harold, Edward and Bruce McKinney. He was retired from the U.S. Army, having served in WWII. He later retired from civilian employment and worked part-time at Spear Superette. He was a member of Henson Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Muriel Lusk McKinney of the home; one daughter, Linda McKinney of Newland; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Grindstaff Memorial Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Revs. Earl Carver Jr. and Brown Howell officiated. A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Friday at Yellow Mountain Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.
