AVERY COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Merle A. Morton, 15 Mar 2003 ----¤¤¤¤---- Merle A. Morton Merle A. Morton, 81, 315 Morton Road, Hampton, died Saturday, March 15, 2003 at her residence following a brief illness. A native of Avery County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late George and Flossie Hicks. Mrs. Morton was a homemaker and a member of Union Baptist Church where she taught the children's Sunday School class for over 50 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. William Oscar Morton, and three sisters, Velva, Lula and Nell. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Velma and Glen Tester, Hampton; Glenda and Rev. Doug Ranshaw, Hampton; three grandchildren and spouses, Scott and Amanda Tester, Hampton; Travis and Donna Ranshaw, Hampton; Tiffany Ranshaw, Hampton; and a sister-in-law, Dollie Church, Elizabethton. Morton, 81, 315 Morton Road, Hampton, who died Saturday, March 15, 2003 will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2003 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Mickey Beal and Rev. Haskel Ingram officiating. Music will be under the direction of Ann Stepp and Amy Bennett. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Richard Tester, Scott Tester, Travis Ranshaw, Glen Church, Gene Church, Jimmy Matherly and Smith Davenport. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Estep, Martin Bennett, Paul Leonard, Arnold Clark, Keith Hicks, Larry Hicks, E.C. Vines, Dewey Hicks, Ray Arnett, Sr., Troy White, Larry Tipton, and deacons and members of Union Baptist Church. Everyone will meet at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, to go in procession to the cemetery.
