Mr. Parlier was a native of Avery County, N.C., and the son of the late John Parlier Sr. and his wife, Lena Storey Parlier. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Parlier, a daughter, Theresa Parlier, a brother, Wayne Parlier, a sister, Alma Sumpter, a grandson, Eric Baker, and a son-in-law, Creed Baker. Mr. Parlier was a member and deacon of Fall Creek Baptist Church, Old Beech Mountain Community. He was a licensed contractor, having built many homes throughout the area. Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Jones Parlier, of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Retta Baker, Old Beech Mountain Community, and Lisa and Mike Miller, Hampton; three grandchildren, Heather Zoellner and husband Jay, Old Beech Mountain Community, John Miller and Seth Miller, both of Hampton; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Jean Cook, Elk Park, N.C., Mary and Charles Smith, Valdese, N.C., and Pearl Ann and Joe McGuire, Winston- Salem, N.C.; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Mack and Dorothy Parlier, Old Beech Mountain Community, and Jim and Jean Parlier, High Point, N.C. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Parlier will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Jacob Willis officiating. Music will be under the direction of Earl Carver Jr. and Teresa Carver. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 15, in the Fall Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Elk Park, N.C., with Rev. Earl Carver Jr. officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Pleze Banner Jr., Troy Crawford, Smith Storey, Bud Ingram and Dallas Banner. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Thursday. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service, and at the residence at other times. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Lower Shell Creek Christian Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 127, Roan Mountain, TN 37687.
