Richardson Essie Shell Richardson, 79, 421 Old Mill Road, Elk Park, N.C., died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Cannon Memorial Hospital, Linville, N.C., following an extended illness. Mrs. Richardson was a native of Carter County and had lived in Elk Park, N.C., for the past 46 years. She was the daughter of the late Andy and Dollie Pritchard Shell and was also preceded in death by her husband, William Ray Richardson, three brothers, Leon Shell, Archie Shell and Hall Shell, and a sister, Ennis Shell. Mrs. Richardson was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Elk Park, N.C. Survivors include four daughters and three sons-in-law, Connie Stout, Elk Park, N.C., Ella and Jimmy Freeman, Barbara and Ferrell Calhoun, all of Newland, N.C., and Darlene and T.L. Langrudi, Topsail Island, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Wayne Dugger, Dolly Brostawski, Eddie Dugger, Gary Dugger, Marcle Waycaster, Lance Calhoun, Channing Langrudi and Crystal Langrudi; 10 great-grandchildren, Candy Dugger, Andrew Dugger, Jessie Dugger, Amanda Dugger, Susan Campbell, Bradley Dugger, Kimberly Dugger, Gavin Dugger, Drew Waycaster and April Dugger; three brothers, Milburn Shell, Hampton, Lowell Shell, Johnson City, and Lonnie Shell, Elizabethton; four sisters, Nomia Miller, Roan Mountain, Jewell Buchanan, Hickory, N.C., Opal Ferguson, Elizabethton, and Lala Shell Hicks, Hampton; and a special sister-in-law, Alexia Shell, Roan Mountain. Dewayne Buchanan and the Rev. Johnny McCoury officiating. Interment will follow the service at Richardson Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home.
