VIRGINIA DELLINGER SMITH 


NEWLAND - Virginia Dellinger Smith, 77, of the Ingalls community, died 
Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine. She 
was the daughter of the late Linney Edward and Ada McKinney Dellinger, and 
wife of the late Sam Smith II. She was also preceded in death by a son, Sam 
Smith III; three brothers, Delmar, Clarence and Homer Dellinger; and a sister, 
Marcella Forbes. She was a member of Henson Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include a brother, Ivor Dellinger of Ingalls; two sisters, Thelma 
Holland of Ingalls, and Clarice Presnell of Marion; and several nieces and 
nephews. 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Whites Memorial Baptist 
Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 1 
p.m. until the service hour Saturday at the church. Webb Funeral Home in 
Spruce Pine assisted the family.
