STEWART STATON 
NEWLAND - Stewart Staton, 85, of Staton Burleson Lane, died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 
2005 in a Johnson City hospital. He was the son of the late Mack and Donna 
Buchanan Staton. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Ann Staton. 
He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, and a U.S. Army veteran of 
WWII.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Hartley Staton; sons, Jimmy and Paul 
Staton, both of Frank, and Joe Staton of Lexington; sisters, Orpha Lee Burleson 
of Frank, and Archie James of Plumtree; seven grandchildren; and 14 great 
grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. 
Revs. Rodney Millsaps and Jim Greene officiated. Burial was Saturday in 
Carpenter Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until the service 
hour Friday at the church. Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine was in charge of 
arrangements.
