AVERY COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Flossie Smith, 27 Oct 2002 ----¤¤¤¤---- Flossie Smith Flossie Smith, 86, 1668 Shultz Circle, Newland, N.C., died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at her residence following an extended illness. A native of Avery County, N.C., Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Jim and Lockie Guy Turbyfill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cart Smith, and an infant son. She was a member of Newland Christian Church. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a former employee of Cannon Memorial Hospital, Banner Elk, N.C. Survivors include five daughters and four sons-in-law, Hazel and Arthur Clark, Newland, N.C., Joan and H. Clay Bailey, Elizabethton, Tenn., Brenda and Roy Brewer, Newland, N.C., Linda Johnson, Newland, N.C., and Donna and John Ward, Newland, N.C., three sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard and Carol Smith, Sanford, N.C., Charles and Sue Smith, Clay City, Ky., Sam Smith, Newland, N.C., four sisters, Gertrude Winebarger, Newland, N.C., Josephine Brewer, Newland, N.C. Gladys Presswood, Banner Elk, N.C., Frances Gouge, Cranberry, N.C., four brothers, Howard Turbyfill, Newland, N.C., Clay Turbyfill, Morganton, N.C., the Rev. Raymond Turbyfill, Cranberry, N.C., and the Rev. Harry Lee Turbyfill, Cranberry, NC., 26 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Jackie Cornett and Mr. Paul Wilson. The graveside service will follow the funeral service in the Heaton Cemetery, Heaton, N.C. Active pallbearers will be selected from grandsons and great-grandsons. Honorary pallbearer will be John Presswood. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Newland Christian Church, Newland, N.C., or at her residence, 1668 Shultz Circle, Newland, N.C., at any time.
